'songs' I learned as a child
I think that most people around my age learned the 50 states song in elementary school.  But I’ve discovered that most everyone else didn’t learn The Presidents of the United States Song (through Reagan) or The Books of the Bible Song.  The former, I really see no reason why it shouldn’t have been more ubiquitous.  The latter, well, I suppose not everyone was going to church...

“Guys, I don’t understand why you think Burlesque is a bad movie. It has...”
– Me (In an email I just sent about going to see Burlesque this week at the Logan.  Showtimes here, if you’re interested in seeing it for a mere $4.  Seriously guys.  Cher.) Stanley Tucci does not appreciate you talking shit about ‘Burlesque’.

Kale Balls!

Ingredients: 1 lb frozen kale, thawed & squeeze out all the water 5 eggs 1 cup shredded parmesan 1 large onion, minced 8 tablespoons of margarine or butter, melted 2 garlic cloves,...

last night's dinner
I’ve been a total slacker when it comes to cooking proper dinners lately.  Usually when it gets cold I get excited about cooking (specifically soups and casseroles) but this year it didn’t happen…until last night.  I kicked some serious cooking ass and made: Spicy Sausage & Peppers And Colcannon with Brussels Sprouts  What.  Yum.  This is how you do winter. Both...

The Ethnic Sandwich Shop
(and other things about Nebraska) I passed this place when I went running on Friday morning and had to come back to check it out - what ethnic sandwiches did they offer?  Bánh mì, falafel, jibaritos?  No. The ‘ethnic’ sandwiches they are referring to, I assume, are the Italian sausage, French dip, Polish sausage, and Irish corned beef.  Additionally, french dressing is called...

winter biking
It’s Casey’s first winter biking in Chicago.  And this morning I pulled out my fleece tights and balaclava for the first time this year, so here’s a link to a post from last year with my winter biking essentials.

“Avoid providing material for the drama that is always stretched tight between...”
– Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet I rode the train (to the bus) to work this morning, juggling an over-sized tote bag and some rolly luggage because I am leaving straight from work to Nebraska to spend a few days with my family.  I snagged a seat on the blue line (during the morning...
