I’m going to need this just as quickly as possible. Root beer liquor? Absolutely yes.
via kickpleat (who was genius enough to bake a cake with the stuff)

I tried this on my last trip to Philadelphia.  While it’s absolutely delicious, I wouldn’t want to have more than one drink with it.  One night we alternated between Root and the bottle of Malört that my friends had brought home from their last visit to Chicago1.
I wonder what conclusions one might make about the two cities based on their regional specialty liquors…
1I’m not sure if my friend Ryan loves Malört or just loves the idea of it, but he drank more than his fair share at Ronny’s, and made sure that everyone else did as well.  He was also very excited to share it with our Philly friends who had never heard of it before.

about last night

Philly friends, Kuma’s burgers1, four rounds of malört2, laughing so hard that my face hurt.

I had a wonderful time, but the picture below pretty accurately describes how I’m feeling this morning.

(images 1 & 2)

1. Ryan had a minor freak out when the guy at the table next to us ordered the Slayer. He was afraid that his burger would be too much for him to handle. Rest assured, said freak out was unnecessary. We all handled our burgers like champs.

2. I didn’t realize how on board they would be with the malört, most people do one shot just to say they did it and never touch it again. Four shots, dear readers.  Each.  We’re pretty tough kids.  I’m looking forward to being in Philly this weekend and trying Root. Which I’m guessing will be a much more enjoyable experience.
